Dumfries & Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway, as with many other regions in Scotland, is steeped in history. It was here on the coast near the Isle of Whithorn that St Ninian first set up a Christian chapel during his pilgrim journey from Ireland in the 5th Century. St Ninian’s Chapel, widely considered to be the first Christian church erected in Scotland still stands here and more can be discovered of the saint at the local museum Whithorn Priory Museum which also houses a collection of ancient stones.

From streams to summits and forests to shores Dumfries and Galloway is perfect backdrop for exciting activities. The region also boasts an abundance of rare wildlife. Indeed, this picturesque and inspirational landscape has moved many to compose wonderful pieces of art and poetry.
