Monaghan

The poet Patrick Kavanagh famously wrote of “the stony grey soil of Monaghan” and indeed the county inspired great deal of his poetry. There are a number of sites dedicated to the poet, as well as centres for displaying Carrickmacross Lace. Monaghan has a reputation for outdoor pursuits and, in particular, rally driving.
